In Spain (not 3rd world... yet, but we are trying hard to get a bit closer now) people almost believes Windows &amp;amp; Office are &amp;quot;for free&amp;quot; (=gratis).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Enforcing anything into people (as in China) is ALWAYS A BAD IDEA!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Governments don&amp;#39;t care about taxpayer&amp;#39;s pockets, they just care about their next re-election. So out of 90% of the market that Microsoft controls 50% of is not really in its control.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Plus China is enforcing its own Linux (Red Flag) Linux on its people.  That would take another chunk out. Is M$ the biggest problem? Why not sit down realxed and concentrate efforts on something more meaningful? I mean, is M$ so interesting? What will happen if you pay less attention to them? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Everyone is free to use whatever they want. And it should be so, no matter what the reasons are. If people want to use Linux, they will use it - some people are simply not compatible with anything Unix-based. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Furthermore, do we Linux users need so much new community members? Why not try to force things? There are plenty of means to learn about Linux, even without promoting it and spamming in the Net, attacking different companies. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have also told many young people about Linux, but very few have been interested. You won&amp;#39;t make the world use the better platform, nor will you make everyone convert to one particular religion. Things will come to their place without needless effort. There are more serious problems in the community, one recent I can think of is here (for example) http://polishlinux.org/gnu/the-right-to-be-free/ so we&amp;#39;d all be better of working on some more important issues. It&amp;#39;s free, it&amp;#39;s better serving the people, because from their pockets come the money for public acquisitions and nonetheless people in these institutions have basic computing needs (office suite, email). Gnu/Linux on the desktop has known massive improvement in our decade and I think it is a matter of time before many schools will adopt it too. Only in wealthier nations does apple approach double digit market share.
